Man Receives Indiana's 1st Breathing Lung Transplant
(Indianapolis, IN) -- An Indiana man is ready to enjoy life again after receiving the state's first breathing lung transplant.
Damon Bradtmueller was the first volunteer in a trial using lungs that were still functioning while they were transported out of state. IU Health was part of the clinical trial they say has taken more than ten years. The technology allows the lungs to stay active rather than go through a freezing and thawing process.
