Statins May Cut Recovery Time For Heart Surgery Patients
(Undated) -- Heart surgery patients may be able to cut their recovery time if they take statins. The popular medication is usually prescribed to reduce high cholesterol but researchers are now investigating how it could be used to improve other conditions. A team of researchers in Dublin, Ireland analyzed data from 20 previous studies and found heart patients who took statins after surgery could reduce the time it took for their incisions to heal from nearly 19 days to 13 days on average. They also found statin users reported having smaller scars.
