A leader of the LGBT student group at the Georgia Institute of Technology was fatally shot by police on campus Saturday night — after police said the student refused officers’ orders to drop a knife.

Scout Schultz, a fourth-year engineering student and president of the school's Pride Alliance student group, was pronounced dead early Sunday morning after being taken to the hospital.

Schultz, who “identified as neither male nor female,” allegedly was armed with a knife and refused to put the weapon down when officers urged him multiple times to do so.

Videos taken by witnesses showed Schultz advancing towards officers with the knife and yelling, “Shoot me.”

His father posted a message on Facebook saying officers didn’t have to shoot him because "He had a tiny knife.”
