One day the girl said to her mistress, “I wish my master would go to see the prophet in Samaria. He would heal him of his leprosy.” - 2  Kings 5:3

Have you ever found yourself alone in what you believe? Perhaps at work or in the neighborhood your faith makes you stand out. The fear of what others may say or do to you may make you keep quiet. But such was not the case for a young woman in Naaman’s employ. She gives us a brave example of sharing her faith in such a situation.

Naaman was the commander of the army of Aram, an enemy nation of Israel. He also suffered from leprosy. Naaman’s wife had a little maid, who had been taken captive from Israel. This young girl found herself very much alone in a foreign land. Instead of feeling sorry for herself, however, she set about making some more believers like herself. It was a real miracle that this little girl, despite unspeakable hurt done to her, was able to reach out in love to those who had harmed her and point them to salvation. She had no desire for revenge against her master. Instead, she loved her enemies, forgave the wrong done to her, and set about pointing her master and mistress to Yahweh as their only hope.

I’m quite sure that Naaman and his wife wouldn’t have listened to the advice of their little slave girl if her life had not backed up her words. We should live such a life among unbelievers, however they treat us, so that they might listen to our words. You never know where sharing your faith will lead!
