This Valentine’s Day, students will explore the unmatched love of Jesus—a love deeper than any human affection and available to all. Through Scripture, discussion, and hands-on activities, they’ll learn how God’s love is unconditional and never-ending.
Reading the stories, extracting lessons, helping them memorize important verses, and helping them see the connections to Jesus and God’s love are part of “train[ing] up a child in the way he should go; [so] even when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6).
The best time to start reading the Bible with your child is when they are in the womb. The second best time is today! We have been known by God even before we were born and were created to know Him.
We see Jesus often being interrupted by people who need His help. He doesn't ignore them. Jesus doesn't rebuke them for coming to Him. He leaves what He is doing to help others. Jesus shows us His heart for children. He exhibits love and compassion towards them
When the disciples asked Jesus who would be greatest in heaven, he told them that only someone with childlike faith could enter heaven. Just how do we get a childlike faith?
The beautiful part about teaching Scriptures to young people is that we too get to learn. Even if we know a verse that we are teaching, it is a wonderful refresher and reminder of the Biblical truth. We are all growing together.
I've found crafts to be immensely helpful in not only keeping children's and even the entire family's attention, but also in helping to focus them on pivotal elements of Scripture that can bring their faith into real life. Finding those Scripture passages that you want to be certain are written on their hearts can begin by writing them on a piece of art, carving them into wood, painting them onto a rock, and so much more.
When these parents or guardians requested Jesus bring blessings over their children, the disciples scolded them and probably made them feel ungrateful for their actions. However, as we read earlier, Jesus rebuked the disciples and told them the little children were to come to Him for blessings and prayer because those were God’s gift to them.
When asked by God what he wanted, Solomon could have asked for anything! He could have been selfish by asking for more money, a bigger house, or expensive food to eat, but he didn’t. He chose to ask God for wisdom.
Being aware of how sexuality has been influenced by porn and how that can create a feeling of deep shame within children and young people can be paramount. Breaking the stigma and allowing our children to feel safe to have those seemingly uncomfortable conversations is one step towards prevention.
Carving out time to focus on family, play games together, discover and learn together, and nourish our souls together—none of it will be wasted. These times tightening our familial bonds and loving on our children will speak measures as they grow.
Pray your child will see God as He truly is. Pray for your child’s salvation. Pray for your child’s friends, youth leaders, Sunday school teachers, and all others who influence their faith.
