At least 1,000 veterans gathered in Amherst, Mass. Sunday to protest the removal of the American flag at Hampshire College.

Local TV, 22News reports hundreds of veterans, their families and friends and other local residents gathered to show their support of the American flag and what it stands for after the College removed the flag on campus earlier this week following the presidential election results.

A decision by the college that outraged many.

The college’s Facebook page is filled with angry posts from veterans, students, and parents following the decision.

The school wrote on Facebook that removing the flag “was never a commentary on the presidential election.”

The school insists they saw it as a “learning opportunity by giving voice to the range of viewpoints on campus across cultures.”
