According to a new report, illegal immigration costs American taxpayers nearly $135 billion a year.
Judicial Watch reports an in-depth probe by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) reveals that state and local taxpayers get stuck with $116 billion of the burden. For those who claim illegal immigrants contribute by paying taxes, government figures show that only amounted to $19 billion.
On the federal level, the biggest expenditure for illegal immigrants is for medical services, which include unpaid hospital costs, and Medicaid births, fraud and benefits.
The second-largest federal expenditure is law enforcement.
FAIR also points out the profound negative impact that illegal immigration has on programs that are supposed to provide services to low-income Americans.
