Senior F.B.I. officials investigating Donald Trump’s presidential campaign last year wrote in text messages that Hillary Clinton “just has to win” and described a Trump victory as “terrifying.”

The text messages released Tuesday night between top counter-intelligence agent Peter Strzok and FBI lawyer Lisa Page include one in which Page tells him in August 2016, “You’re meant to protect the country from that menace.”

Some messages criticized Clinton’s team, the Obama administration, and other Democrats.

But most made it clear that the two deeply dislike the President. Strzok went on to become one of the top investigators for special counsel Robert Mueller, but was later removed as soon as the texts came to light.

They only further fuel suspicion that the Mueller investigation has been politically motivated from the start.
