Hey Salty Lady

Oh No, Girl–Showgirl.

Thinking back to the fingers wagged at me because “Taylor Swift is a Christian…and who am I to condescend to pray being a wife and mother changes her heart.”

Friends, let’s talk about maturity in Christ.

It is the goal after all—leaving born again infancy for the hard work and good works of walking in the adulthood of our faith.

My word it has to be exhausting to be a fan. I’m tired from 5 minutes on Threads. Half the world is accusing her of going “trad-wife, conservative pipeline, with hints of white supremacy.” While much of the trad-conservative pipeline doesn’t see why she is neither.

Y’all if I object to CardiB songs about private parts, I’m gonna object to Taylor’s.

Private parts in general, in any genre. Nay. And I say this as a child of the 80’s and 90’s who knew the words to every song from Grease before I knew what any meant.
I wish I didn’t.

Being consistent should be easy here.

Not all art should go on the fridge.

Not everything created should have been. We had this conversation last during the Summer Olympics, remember?

“Creative” is not our standard.

Nor glittering, glamorous, or girl power.
Nope.
Pure, true, noble, honorable, right, lovely, excellent and worthy of praise…that’s the standard where we dwell.
And create.
And build our families.

Anyone else wondering what Mama Kelce thinks of a certain song? Yowza.

Your soon-to-be DIL just put a visual in the mind of the listening world that your child will never escape. For the rest of his life, there is a new catalog of nicknames, questions, jokes, and jesting that will greet him. All centered on his most private…well, private part. If Travis were a girl, we would call this sexual objectification at a minimum, wouldn’t we? Dehumanization?
Just to be clear—it’s porn about your fiancé. Yes?

Consistency should be easy here too.

I am not going to listen to any or all of the album. There’s no need. The one song, Wood, would be a dealbreaker for me and it should be for you too. Beef with exes. Elaborate clues and hidden gems. It’s immature, but whatever. She’s 35 now. Not 15.

But Christians should easily be able to see that writing a song that objectifies the person you love most in the world, in front of the world…should disqualify you from emulation and the adoration of Believers.

If someone wrote the same of my daughter, now really imagine that. If a male artist wrote a song entirely about his fiancé’s vagina and the extraordinary skills she had to please him sexually…attaching that to her identity forevermore…we probably would not still be defending their Christ-like character. Or taking our sons to his shows to sing along with that exact song. Right? Nod your head.

Oh no girl–Showgirl. This is not for us.
