At eight o'clock that evening, while approaching Ashtabula station, and crossing a ravine, the bridge gave way, and the train, with its precious freight of human lives, . . .

Philip P. Bliss penned “HALLELUJAH! WHAT A SAVIOR” and many other hymns

---Lucy & her husband P.P. Bliss, the renowned hymwriter, died in a train diaster in Ashtabula, Ohio. Their two orphan sons were committed with prayer to the care of Rev. John S. & Clara Elizabeth Young Ellsworth of Orwell, PA, (their aunt & uncle)following the death of their parents. Clara was Lucy's sister.

---On July 9, 1877, a cenotaph was dedicated to the memory of Philip & Lucy Bliss in the Rome Cemetery with 10,000 people present. Dwight L. Moody, the famous evangelist, gave the message, & Ira Sanky lead the singing. The memorial stands as the tallest monument in the middle of the cemetery.
