The Nevada Senate approved Tuesday along party lines a so-called National Popular Vote bill aimed at upending the Electoral College.

The Washington Examiner reports Assembly Bill 186, which passed the Senate and now goes to the governor, would bring Nevada into the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, an agreement between participating states to cast their electoral votes for the winner of the popular vote.

While the effort has been billed by organizers as bipartisan, it’s Democrats who have truly embraced the compact after President Trump’s 2016 victory, in which he won the electoral vote but not the popular vote.

Leftist groups cheered the Nevada vote and Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak is expected to sign it.
