A high school teacher in California was placed on paid administrative leave after she let students discuss the politics of the National School Walkout, which took place around the country on Wednesday.

Reason reports Julianne Benzel, who teaches at Rocklin High School asked her students to discuss what would happen if similar walk-outs were staged by pro-life students to something else, like abortion.

She asked “would that be allowed by our administration?"

Benzel said the student-led discussion was fruitful.

But, the teacher was told later that day that she had been placed on leave, with no specific reason given.

Benzel said she suspects she got in trouble for suggesting that schools administrators who condoned the student walkout might be practicing a double standard.
