Former ESPN reporter Britt McHenry on Monday slammed GQ magazine for naming former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick “Citizen of the Year.”
The magazine received a lot of backlash, including a string of tweets from McHenry, who commented on Kaepernick’s clothing choices including socks depicting police officers as pigs and shirts celebrating Fidel Castro.
McHenry questioned why GQ didn’t name Houston Texans' JJ Watt who raised $37 million for Hurricane Harvey relief, for its “Citizen of the Year,” opting instead for Kaepernick who refused to stand for the national anthem a year ago.
Kaepernick, who was not hired by any NFL team this seaon, has continued his protest.
In addition to the GQ cover he’s also landed a $1 million book deal.
