California is looking at nearly doubling its $200 billion annual budget as some liberal lawmakers want to create a universal single-payer healthcare system in the state.
The Washington Examiner reports legislative analysts gave an estimate today of how much such a system would cost. They say it would be somewhere around $400 billion per year.
That’s pretty close to the total national spending on Medicaid and it’s a lot more than exists in California’s current state budget.
The numbers also don’t take into account the left-wing non-productive people moving into the state to take advantage of such a system, and the businesses moving out of the state to avoid the massive taxes that are sure to arise.
Analysts say the plan would create an estimated annual shortfall of $50 billion to $100 billion, or between 25 and 50 percent of the current budget.
