Law enforcement officials say all three people aboard a small twin-engine plane that crashed into the Pacific Ocean off California's central coast have died. The Monterey County Sheriff's Office confirmed the fatalities late Sunday. The plane went down about 300 yards off Point Pinos. Officials have not disclosed the cause of the crash, which happened Saturday. Witnesses reported hearing the aircraft engine revving before a splash. Debris later washed ashore. The plane took off from San Carlos airport and was last seen near Monterey. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.

Authorities say they plan to file terrorism and assault with intent to murder charges against the suspect in a weekend knife attack at a Walmart store in Michigan. Eleven people were stabbed Saturday at the store in Traverse City and all are expected to survive. Authorities say Bradford Gille of Afton, Michigan, is in custody and that investigators believe those hurt Saturday were not specifically targeted. A local sheriff, Michael Shea, praised the quick response by law enforcement officers who arrived within minutes of getting a call about the stabbing . Shea says a group of bystanders intervened and detained the suspect in the parking lot.

Officials told The Associated Press Monday that a gunman opened fire just outside the Grand Sierra Resort casino in Reno. Reno police spokesperson Chris Johnson says the gunman was taken into custody Monday and was being treated at a hospital. Johnson says the shooting was reported around 7:30 a.m. Monday outside the casino in the valet area. Reno police warned residents to stay out of the vicinity. A spokesperson for Renown Regional Medical Center says the hospital’s emergency department received several patients with gunshot wounds.

The conditions of the victims at the Grand Sierra Resort were not immediately known, said Reno police spokesperson Chris Johnson. The gunman was being treated at a hospital, Johnson said. The shooting was reported around 7:30 a.m. Monday outside in the valet area, Johnson said. A spokesperson with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Department said an officer was involved in the shooting. Reno police warned residents to stay out of the area. Multiple emergency vehicles, including several ambulances, responded outside the casino. The Grand Sierra claims to have the biggest casino floor in northern Nevada and sits just a few blocks from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. It’s also one of the tallest buildings in the city, with nearly 2,000 hotel rooms. “My heart breaks for the victims, their families, and our entire community. Reno is strong — but we are not immune to the epidemic of gun violence gripping this nation," city council member Devon Reese said in a social media post.

U.S. President Donald Trump says he intends to shorten the 50-day deadline he gave Russian President Vladimir Putin to reach a deal that ends the three-year war in Ukraine. His announcement Monday came as the Ukrainian air force said Russia fired another overnight barrage at Ukraine. Trump said two weeks ago he would implement “severe tariffs” on Russia unless a peace deal is reached by early September. Trump said he would give Putin 10 to 12 days from Monday instead. That means he wants peace efforts to make progress by Aug. 7-9. The plan includes possible sanctions and secondary tariffs targeting Russia’s trading partners.
