Response From The White House On Operation Midnight Hammer
With Dr. Sebastian Gorka (Deputy Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Counterterrorism).
Israel says it hit Iranian government targets in Tehran in a series of strikes that followed a salvo of missiles and drones fired by Iran at Israel earlier in the day in the wake of the Trump administration’s massive strikes on Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend. Israel’s Defense Ministry said it hit targets in Tehran, including the notorious Evin Prison and the security headquarters of the paramilitary Revolutionary Guards. The Israeli military also confirmed it hit roads around Iran’s Fordo enrichment facility to obstruct access to the site on Monday. The underground site was one of those hit in Sunday’s attack by the U.S. The Israeli military did not elaborate.
Police in Michigan say a suspect has been shot and killed by a security guard after a shooting at a church in a suburb of Detroit. The Wayne Police Department says officers responded to an active shooter Sunday morning at CrossPointe Community Church in Wayne. Authorities say the arriving officers discovered that a security guard for the church had shot and killed the suspect. One victim was shot in the leg. Police are investigating the shooting and have asked residents to avoid the area.
State media says a suicide bomber in Syria has detonated himself inside a church filled with people, killing at least 22. The explosion in Dweil’a in the outskirts of Damascus took place Sunday as people were praying inside the Mar Elias Church. Britain-based war monitor the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says there were 30 people wounded and killed, but the exact numbers are unclear. Some local media reported that children were among the casualties. The attack was the first of its kind in Syria in years, and comes as Damascus under its de facto Islamist rule is trying to win the support of minorities.
President Donald Trump says the U.S. military struck three sites in Iran, inserting itself into Israel’s effort to decapitate the country’s nuclear program in a risky gambit to weaken a longtime foe amid Tehran’s threat of reprisals that could spark a wider regional conflict. The decision to directly involve the U.S. comes after more than a week of strikes by Israel on Iran that have moved to systematically eradicate the country’s air defenses and offensive missile capabilities, while damaging its nuclear enrichment facilities. But U.S. and Israeli officials have said that American stealth bombers and a 30,000-lb. bunker buster bomb they alone can carry offered the best chance of destroying heavily-fortified sites connected to the Iranian nuclear program.
The U.S. military struck three sites in Iran, inserting itself into Israel’s war aimed at destroying the country’s nuclear program in a risky gambit to weaken a longtime foe amid Tehran’s threat of reprisals that could spark a wider regional conflict. President Donald Trump said Iran’s key nuclear sites were “completely and fully obliterated.” He also warned Tehran against carrying out retaliatory attacks against the U.S., saying Iran has a choice between “peace or tragedy.” Iran’s nuclear agency confirmed that attacks hit its Fordo, Isfahan and Natanz atomic sites, but insisted that its work will not be stopped.
