The men and women who work in law enforcement are tasked with a monumental, often physically and mentally draining job. They are some of the first people who respond to scenes when things go horribly wrong. On a daily basis, law enforcement officials encounter some of the worst, most dangerous elements in society.

A video posted on YouTube shows a police officer in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, responding to one of those frightening, mentally draining scenes.

Police Officer Steps in to Save Baby Boy

Officer Robert Baer was the first on the scene for a 1-year-old child who had stopped breathing.

The parents were headed to the hospital when the child’s father flagged Officer Baer down. Immediately, Officer Baer begins frantically performing life-saving maneuvers on the child who lies on the hood of the parent’s car.

“I picked him up, and his eyes rolled into the back of his head,” Officer Baer said. “That’s when I sat him back down, and he wasn’t breathing again. So, I started chest compressions again.”

The short clip shows the officer working on the child and talking to the youngster, trying to coax him into breathing again. “Stay with me, little man,” the officer tells the baby.

Then, seconds later, the child lets out a whimper and cries as the police officer holds him in his arms. Thankfully, the baby regains normal breathing functions. Officer Baer radios into dispatch, “the baby’s breathing.”

Officer Baer is a hero, having saved that youngster’s life.

After the baby is safely in the arms of paramedics, the weight of the moment hits Officer Baer. The police officer cries and wipes away tears, understanding that what happened will remain with him for a long time.

“I’ll never forget the thing that took place and the sound he made when he started breathing,” Officer Baer said.

Psalm 82:3-4 “Give ear to the cause of the poor and the children without fathers; let those who are in troubled and in need have their rights. Be the savior of the poor and those who have nothing: take them out of the hand of the evildoers.”
