Courage to Be Honest with God | Your Nightly Prayer

Have you ever edited your prayers before speaking them?

Maybe you softened your anger because it did not feel spiritual enough. Perhaps you avoided mentioning your disappointment because you were afraid it sounded ungrateful. You may have buried a difficult question because you thought faithful Christians were not supposed to ask it.

Sometimes we bring God the version of ourselves we think He wants instead of the truth of what is actually happening inside us.

But God already knows.

He knows when we are confused, angry, exhausted, grieving, or afraid. He sees every thought before we shape it into a sentence. Our silence does not protect Him from our emotions; it only keeps us from experiencing the freedom of bringing them into His presence.

Throughout Scripture, God’s people prayed with striking honesty.

David expressed fear, frustration, grief, and even feelings of abandonment. Job asked painful questions. Jeremiah lamented deeply. Jesus Himself prayed in anguish before the cross.

Their honesty did not push God away.

It revealed dependence on Him.

Tonight, you do not have to offer God a polished prayer. You can bring Him the truth.
