Bernie Sanders Wasn’t Always On Board with Medicare for All

Sen. Bernie Sanders unveiled his socialized health care legislation that he called “Medicare-for-all” on Wednesday, flanked by several Democratic supporters.

However, video that has surfaced from 1987 while he was mayor of Burlington, Vermont shows a very different Sanders.

In the video, called “Bernie Speaks with the Community,” Sanders said that Medicaid for all would be too much of a financial burden for the United States to bear. He admitted that such legislation would “bankrupt the nation.”

Now Sanders and other Democrats are fine with a Medicare-for-all system, despite the now-senator’s previous fiscal hesitations about similar programs.
