Tennis commentator Doug Adler was fired from ESPN after several years working matches for the sports channel.

Townhall reports the former tennis pro was advised that his services would no longer be necessary following his commentary for a Venus Williams tennis match. During the broadcast,

Adler discussed Williams’ strategy saying “You'll see Venus move in and put the guerilla effect on. Charging."

He said guerilla as in military tactics, but ESPN and a tennis writer thought he was comparing Williams to a gorilla, as in the animal.

Adler noted for years, tennis commentators have used the word "guerrilla" to describe aggressive, attacking-style play.

ESPN also fired Curt Schilling in 2016 over conservative comments he made on social media.
