In one of the more shocking speeches of the year, actress Lena Dunham announced during the most recent episode of her podcast “Women of the Hour” that she wishes she had undergone an abortion in order to combat “stigma around this issue.”

Dunham, a writer and producer of HBO’s “Girls,” who calls herself an “abortion rights activist” said that she realized that she had inadvertently stigmatized abortion because she herself had never had one.

Dunham then said, “now I can say that I still haven’t had an abortion, but I wish I had.”

Dunham went on to commend “many of her loved ones” who had abortions for their “bravery and self-knowledge.”

Her comments were met with thousands of angry posts on social media.
