In his big budget proposal Monday, President Trump outlined a novel approach to providing for needy people on food stamps, asking why not just give them actual food?

As the Washington Times reports, about 42 million people use food stamps - officially the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) – which they use at many stores for food, but the program is rife with abuse.

Under Trump’s “America’s Harvest Box” program, a majority of all SNAP recipients would get about half of their benefits in the form of a “USDA Foods package” made up of non-perishable, nutritious foods.

Enraged liberals claimed Trump was “making poor people eat beans and rice,” embarrassing them, and “reducing choices.”

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says nearly 1.5 million Americans have gotten off food stamps since Trump took office.
