According to multiple sources, the abrupt resignation Monday of national security adviser Michael Flynn is the culmination of a secret, months-long campaign by former Obama administration people to unhinge President Trump's national security team and preserve the Iran nuclear deal.
The Washington Free Beacon says an effort, led by former Obama adviser Ben Rhodes, was primarily focused on discrediting Flynn, an opponent of the Iran nuclear deal, by planting stories at media outlets aimed at eroding Flynn's credibility.
Flynn admitted to missteps in speaking with contacts in Russia, but multiple sources say the bigger concern is a larger, more secretive campaign aimed at discrediting Flynn and undermining the Trump White House.
