Papa John's, the official pizza company of the NFL, has pulled some of its ads blaming the protests for its lack of sales.

In a conference call yesterday, company founder and CEO John Schnatter pointed to what he called poor leadership at the top in the NFL.

Schnatter said the practice of allowing players to kneel during the National Anthem is polarizing the country and causing a drop in television ratings.

Schnatter said “We are disappointed the NFL and its leadership did not resolve this.”

The company, which has a deal with the league and with 23 teams said it has taken a lot of its NFL advertising off the air as a result.

Company stock is down almost 25 percent this year.
