Those on the left have something new to be offended by – cotton. Two recent complaints allege the decorative use of cotton is racist.

Last week, a Facebook post by a Texas woman took Hobby Lobby to task for a decorative display that featured a glass vase with cotton plants.

The woman’s post, which asked them to remove the “offensive” display argued that cotton - a prime export of the pre-Civil War South – was not decorative and “a commodity which was gained at the expense of slaves.”

In another cotton controversy, the president of Nashville's Lipscomb University offered an apology after cotton stalks were used in a centerpiece at a dinner at his home for African-American students.

After the dinner, a student complained on social media that the centerpiece was offensive.
