Democrats appeared shocked after learning Attorney General Jeff Sessions met twice, as a senator, with Russia’s ambassador to the U.S. without telling Congress at his confirmation hearing.

But, as Fox News reports, the longtime Russian ambassador actually met with seven then-Democratic senators in 2013, among other times– and reportedly was a frequent visitor to the Obama White House.

Sessions’ critics portrayed these types of meetings as rare, but House Speaker Paul Ryan said Thursday, “We meet with ambassadors all the time.”

Democratic Senator Clair McCaskill tweeted she had never had a call or meeting with a Russian ambassador.

But, newly released tweets confirm she did, in 2013 and again in 2015.

And today, President Trump tweeted out a photo of a younger Sen. Chuck Schumer and Vladimir Putin enjoying coffee and donuts. Trump called Schumer a “total hypocrite.”
