Tennessee is the first state in the nation to sue the federal government over forced refugee resettlement.

The lawsuit, filed Monday on behalf of several state lawmakers charges that the federal government is not complying with the Refugee Act of 1980, based on the 10th Amendment.

The lawsuit argues that the federal government has forced states to pay for the refugee resettlement program and asks the court to force the federal government to stop resettling refugees in Tennessee until they pay for it.

Left-wing groups, such as the ACLU, are slamming the lawsuit, saying it will “perpetuate a culture of fear.”
