Saying students are being taught hatred at public expense, a Flagstaff Republican lawmaker is proposing new limits on what and how schools, colleges and universities can teach.

Rep. Bob Thorpe wants to expand on a 2010 law which prohibited “ethnic studies” courses at some public schools from teaching anything that promotes resentment toward another race.

AZ Capitol Times reports Thorpe said Thursday his bill is aimed specifically at things like a “privilege walk” exercise sponsored by the University of Arizona and a course entitled “Whiteness and Race Theory” at Arizona State University.

That course includes a required textbook called, “The Everyday Language of White Racism.”

Thorpe said he sees those and similar classes as a step backwards.
