USA Today was widely mocked on Twitter Wednesday for trying to sensationalize the Texas church shooting by posting a video making it seem as if the shooter used an assault-style rifle modified with a "chainsaw bayonet."
While a chainsaw bayonet is a real modification that can be made to rifles, USA Today was later forced to tweet a clarification saying, "The video shows both the shooter’s modifications, as well as other possible modifications. The shooter did not use a chainsaw bayonet."
But that wasn’t before the original tweet inspired a host of imaginative Twitter users to design other possible modifications to rifles that USA Today left out.
Those included adding a selfie-stick bayonet, a great white shark bayonet, and even the Star Wars Death Star as a modification.
