The Origins of the Song, ‘Jesus Paid it All’ 

What a wonderful cover of this lovely hymn. "Jesus Paid It All” was written by Elvina M. Hall in 1865 in Baltimore, Maryland. The song was inspired by a pastor's sermon on the crucifixion that Elvina Hall was listening to while in the choir loft at Monument Street Methodist Church. When the lyrics came to Elvina, she wrote them down on the flyleaf of her hymnal.

At first, Elvina felt guilty for not being completely focused on the entire sermon, but when she showed the words to her pastor, he brought them to John Grape. He had been looking for lyrics to fit a melody he had written, and Elivina’s words were a perfect match to his music. Then, in 1868, "Jesus Paid It All” was published for the first time in Professor Theodore Perkins’ Sabbath Carols.

This rendition from Sounds Like Reign of "Jesus Paid It All" was praised by many online who were blessed by the music.

The lyrics reflect a personal, intimate relationship with God, often described as a peaceful, contemplative walk with Jesus in a garden setting.

‘In the Garden’ is Quite the Cherished Hymn

What a lovely rendition of this cherished hymn! In the video, Rusty Collier is on bass, Austin Harper is on Mandolin, Hunter Phillips is on Guitar, and Sarah Stewart is on Banjo. Their harmonies were beautiful, and many people online praised this "In the Garden" hymn bluegrass cover.

When it comes to the hymn “In The Garden,” this is one song that is enormously popular. It is almost impossible to find it omitted from any standard hymnal, and more than a million recordings and printed copies of it have been sold.

The man who wrote this beloved hymn was C. Austin Miles. He had attended the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and the University of Pennsylvania to become a pharmacist, but he abandoned that career in 1892 when he wrote his first Gospel song.

He said of himself, "It is as a writer of gospel songs I am proud to be known, for in that way I may be of the most use to my master, whom I serve willingly although not as efficiently as is my desire."

There are moments on American Idol when a performance feels like more than a competition—more than judges, fans, and the winning title—and Braden Rumfelt gave us one of those moments with his dazzling rendition of “Hard Fought Hallelujah.” Praise the Lord for YouTube and a chance to rewatch the epic moment anytime our souls need it!

You could feel it from the first note, the way the room seemed to quiet, the way something sacred slipped in between the lyrics and the listening. This wasn’t about hitting every note perfectly; this was about telling the truth. The kind of truth that trembles in your chest when you’ve lived through something hard, and you’re still choosing to sing anyway. 

And maybe that’s why it lingered—because it wasn’t just his voice, it was his story wrapped inside a song that already carries so much weight. But it wasn’t just about competing on American Idol, it was as if Braden wanted to share the message with viewers and fans what a hard fought hallelujah means. Because we’ve been stuck in a rock and a hard spot. The only thing left for us was to keep our eyes on Jesus as we put one foot in front of the other. 

“Hard Fought Hallelujah” was written by Brandon Lake 

Written by Brandon Lake, “Hard Fought Hallelujah” has always felt like a song for the weary, for the ones who love God but don’t always feel Him close. And as Braden stood there, you could almost hear those lyrics settle into every heart watching: “Yeah, I don’t always feel it / Yeah, but that’s when I need it the most / So, I’ma keep on singing / ’Til my soul catches up with my song.” 

Haven’t we all been there? Singing words we’re still trying to believe, holding onto faith by the thinnest thread, whispering hallelujah when it feels more like a fight than a celebration. And then the chorus rises like a brave declaration in the middle of the storm: “I’ll bring my hard-fought, heartfelt / Been-through-hell hallelujah… / And I’ll bring my storm-tossed, torn-sail / Story-to-tell hallelujah.” It’s not polished, not easy, but it is the honest to goodness truth. 

I don’t think there was anyone else who could have sang as remarkably as Braden did as he stood there declaring God’s glory in his beige suit and baby pink shirt. It’s the kind of performance that doesn’t just stay on the stage—it settles into the quiet places of your heart where you’ve been fighting battles no one else can see. 

So if you get the chance, watch Braden’s performance, let it wash over you, and don’t just listen—join in. Sing your own hard-fought hallelujah, even if your voice shakes, even if the words feel heavy. Because those are the praises that rise the highest—the ones born from real life, real struggle, and a God who is still faithful in the middle of it all.

Hymns are severely underutilized pieces of music. While they remained beloved by many, it’s becoming harder and harder to hear them in churches. Instead, many places of worship have ditched them in favor of more modern, contemporary Christian tunes. And this is becoming the norm with increasing frequency.

Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against modern contemporary Christian music. That genre of music has given us many wonderful and powerful songs about the love, faith and forgiveness freely offered by Jesus Christ. However, I just prefer the old church hymns and do so by a significant margin, and I don’t think I’m alone in that way.

I think we can all agree that this is just something about hearing “Great is Thy Faithfulness,” “How Great Thou Art,” and “Amazing Grace” in a house of worship. Those songs will never get old and tired, no matter how many times you may have heard them.

In a clip posted on YouTube, Ben and Tommee perform another one of those beloved church hymns: “Old Rugged Cross.” However, instead of the version we all know and love, these two talented musicians take the song in a completely different direction, giving it an updated feel and sound. All the lyrics are still the same powerful words we all know and love, but with a much different sound.

Even if this one version is not exactly to your taste and preference, you still have to admit that it’s nice to see and hear that those old church hymns have not been completely forgotten and left behind.

Josh Baldwin's Red Rocks is a Powerful Performance 

And as this powerful performance of “Made for More” filled that sacred space, it didn’t just sound beautiful—it felt like truth wrapping itself around every weary heart listening. Because haven’t we all had seasons where we forgot who we were? 

And yet the lyrics remind us, like a gentle but firm whisper from God Himself: “I know who I am ’cause I know who You are… I was called by name… I was made for more.” Friend, that’s not just a song—it’s a calling. It’s a reminder that you were never meant to stay buried in shame or stuck in yesterday’s pain. No, you were raised back to life again, chosen, free, and deeply loved. 

And oh, can you imagine sitting there in those stone-carved seats, the Colorado air brushing against your skin, voices rising together in hallelujah—how peace might settle into your bones, how your heart might finally exhale? 

So watch it while you can, let it play a little louder than your doubts, and remind your soul of what’s always been true: you are His, and you were made for so much more.

Her goal is to be more comfortable and confident without her instrument with her. She is challenging herself to perform better and be more confident than before. The coaches encourage her. 

Halfway through the mentoring time with Brad and Keke, her family comes in. You see Hannah’s husband and three sons come onto the clip, and it really gives her a newfound confidence. They talk about how she grew up in a family band, and this gives her a boost to be with her loved ones. 

You see a clip of Hannah in a homemade dress, praying before taking the stage. Everyone is cheering her on. Hannah has a great attitude. She starts singing “Ain’t No Grave” by Bethel and Molly Skaggs. She has such unique runs, grit, and

This song is a clear picture of the gospel of Jesus and His resurrection. It will inspire you to see Hannah select such a wonderful song to give glory to her Savior on a global stage. She takes courage and shines so brightly for the Lord. Her voice is heaven-sent, and it is incredible to see her use it as a witness to the world for Christ.
