Put A Cork In The Sanctimony

To my liberal Christian friends – you won.  I concede.  Well done.  Feel free to gloat.  Go ahead, pile on – you deserve to.  If you are so inclined, do your little profane victory dance.  But please, hold the sanctimony.

I am inspired by a social media post from a liberal retired pastor friend of mine.  It reads:

Someone told me to “vote according to Biblical values!”

So, I voted welcoming immigrants, helping the poor, feeding the hungry, bringing healthcare to the sick, forgiving debts, caring for our planet, laying down our swords, and loving all our neighbors.

No, what you voted for was the government to do those things.  What God wants is for you and for me to do those things.  Big difference.

• “Welcome the immigrant?”  Organize your church or a group of friends to sponsor someone and bring them in legally.
• “Help the poor?”  By all means, give until it hurts – but what you are doing is forcing people to give through taxation.
• “Bring healthcare to the sick?”  The nation used to be littered with charity hospitals for precisely that purpose, many belonging to churches – until government took over and drove them all out of business.
• “Forgive debts?”  Just remember the Parable of the the Unmerciful Servant.  Make sure you do not do likewise.  And remember, not all debts are monetary.

Have I made my point, or do I need to go on?

Winning an election does not grant the winner moral superiority, or righteousness in any fashion.  Spare me.
